Bass and house below the threshold: dubstep and UK bass, deconstructed club, deep and outsider house. Sub-bass, swing and space come first, and the club is taken apart as often as it is danced to.
It comes from the UK hardcore continuum: jungle and UK garage, then the early South London dubstep of Skream and Digital Mystikz, Burial on Hyperdub, and the instrumentals of grime. What followed widened the field: halftime and 140, the deconstructed club of Janus in Berlin and of labels like PAN, and the slower, stranger edges of house, from deep to outsider.
We file here records where low end, swing and negative space do the work: dubstep and its heirs, dark grime instrumentals, club music taken apart and rebuilt, house that sounds made far from the peak-time floor. Straight four-to-the-floor techno goes under Deep techno or Industrial techno & EBM.
