Schattenstimme

On Schattenstimme, Alva Noto takes the imagined cinema of his two-part project into more unfamiliar territory. Recorded with percussionist Rainer Römer and Ensemble Modern, the second album introduces the Sixxen, whose metallic, microtonal resonances unsettle the surrounding sonic space. Drawing on the shifting identities of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s The Sandman, its thirteen pieces trace a passage through fractured perception and transformation, where the strange gradually becomes part of the self.
