Techno and experimental electronic music in Milan
Where to hear techno and experimental electronic music in Milan: a listening series, clubs, independent spaces and a festival in the woods.
Milan has more venues than any other Italian city, and most of them have nothing to do with this music. These are the rooms and series we follow for techno and experimental electronic music.
In short
- Inner_Spaces, San Fedele Auditorium: experimental electronic music for seated, attentive listening.
- Gate Milano, via Valtellina: a club in a former hangar, techno among other nights.
- Tempio del Futuro Perduto, via Luigi Nono: an independent cultural centre in a former railway workshop.
- Masada and Circolo Amelia: two cultural associations with a self-funded electronic programme.
- Tunnel, under Milano Centrale: a club since 1995.
- Terraforma, Villa Arconati: an experimental festival in the woods just outside the city, in early summer.
The next nights are on our agenda.
Inner_Spaces at San Fedele
Inner_Spaces is the experimental electronic music and audiovisual series of the San Fedele Cultural Foundation, running since 2012 in the San Fedele Auditorium, near the Duomo. Concerts use the Acousmonium SATOR, an orchestra of about fifty loudspeakers, and are built for seated, attentive listening. It runs in spring and autumn seasons, usually on Monday evenings.
Gate Milano
Gate Milano is a club at via Valtellina 21, in a converted hangar on two levels with room for about 575 people and a Funktion-One and d&b sound system. Its programme is mixed: techno and house nights sit next to very different ones, so check the night before you go.
Tempio del Futuro Perduto
Tempio del Futuro Perduto opened in 2018 in a former railway workshop at via Luigi Nono 9/7. It is an independent, multidisciplinary cultural centre run by a young collective: exhibitions, workshops and performances, with electronic nights among them.
Masada and Circolo Amelia
Masada and Circolo Amelia are two cultural associations in the north-west of the city: Masada at viale Carlo Espinasse 41, Amelia at via privata Venezia Giulia 19. Their electronic programme is self-funded and wide, from daytime events to club nights with projections.
Tunnel
Tunnel opened in 1995 beneath the tracks of Milano Centrale station, and was a reference for the city's techno, trance and house in its first years. Today it mixes concerts, from indie to hip hop, with DJ nights.
Terraforma
Terraforma is a festival of experimental music and environmental sustainability, held in early summer in the woods and gardens of Villa Arconati, in Bollate, just outside Milan.
Dates and line-ups change: always check the venue before you go.
